Street Party

Torbay Road Street Party

Dear Neighbours

I think you will agree that we are very lucky to have so many lovely people living in our street. Yes parking, alarms, rubbish, broken pavements might be some of the things we grumble about but we also have lots of very talented, generous, caring and fun adults, children and young people. We probably have more things to celebrate that not…….new babies arriving by the month, new residents, houses that have survived 100+ years, Art in the Garden annual event, successful book club, shared cooking apples in the Autumn, path clearing in the snow, carol singing, trees planting, cat sitters and holiday key holders, a number of Mr and Ms Fix-its, cycle maintenance and shared brooms to name a few.

A few weeks ago with spring in the air a number of us suggested having a street party – a celebration for everyone in Torbay Road. The conversation moved onto possible dates with Saturday 11th September being favoured. At this point we agreed it would be good to invite all our neighbours to get involved and see what ideas you might have on how we can celebrate life in the street.

In the mean time to help get things started I have contacted the council and filled in an application to have the road closed for that day. It is quite simple but does involve us having public liability insurance. So I have arranged insurance at a cost of £50. I also have an application form from our ward coordinator for a cash grant for communities wanting to improve their neighbourhood. Looking good so far and what do you think?

To help with the next stage we need to get together a small group of people prepared to help organise our celebration. We are happy to host the first planning meeting on Sunday 13th 8pm. I would also like us to hold a meeting with young people in the street.

Accepting that not everyone has the time to get involved as an organiser it would be good to know we have your support and that you would like to join in on the day.

Please tear off and return to Glynis and David, 46 Torbay Road, or glynisjoyfrancis@gmail.com or davidrowlands1@gmail.com or ring 861 0950 by Wednesday 9th June. Thank you. …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
